NEW DELHI: INDIA has achieved another significant milestone in global environmental protection. According to the Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) 2025 released in Bali by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), India has risen to ninth place in the world in terms of total forest area. Additionally, the country has maintained its third-place position in annual forest area growth. This achievement represents a jump from the previous assessment of 10th place.
Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav described the achievement as a proud moment for all Indians. “We have moved up to ninth globally in terms of forest area, compared to 10th in the previous assessment. We have also maintained our third position globally in terms of annual increase. The Global Forest Resources Assessment (GFRA) 2025 has been launched in Bali by FAO,” Yadav wrote on the social media platform ‘X’.
He said that this achievement has been achieved as a result of the Modi Government’s schemes and policies for forest conservation and enhancement and the massive tree plantation efforts by the state governments.
Yadav wrote in the post, “The Prime Minister’s call for ‘One Tree for Mother’ and his continued emphasis on environmental awareness has inspired people across the country to actively participate in tree plantation and conservation. This growing public participation is fostering a sense of collective responsibility towards a green and sustainable future.”
