ROTARY District 3011, in collaboration with Rotaractors, Goutami Eye Institute, and Eye Foundation of America, launched a national Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) Programme in Delhi NCR recently. Led by Dr Mahesh Trikha, District Governor, RID 3011, and Dr VK Raju Chairman Goutami Eye Institute, the initiative is aimed at providing critical eye-care services to premature infants, preventing irreversible blindness.
The programme will establish a network of specialised eye-care centres, providing free screenings and treatment to premature infants in Delhi and NCR. The collaborative effort will bring together medical professionals, researchers, and community leaders to raise awareness about ROP and promote early detection.
The highlights
The highlights of the programme include, free screenings and treatment for premature infants in Delhi and NCR; establishment of specialised eye-care centres; community outreach and awareness programmes; and research and development to improve ROP diagnosis and treatment Following the successful implementation in Delhi NCR, the programme will be scaled up nationally, reaching premature infants across the country.
