NEW DELHI: Twelve scientists have been selected for the Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Awards for the year 2022. Dr.N Kalaiselvi, DirectorGeneral of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, announced the awards in the presence of Union Minister for Science and technology Dr Jitendra Singh.
Named after Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, the first director of CSIR, these awards are given every in seven scientific disciplines – physics, biology, engineering, mathematics, medicine, chemistry, and earth sciences.
The awardees for 2022 are Dr Ashwani Kumar and Dr Maddika Subba Reddy (Biological Sciences), Dr Akkattu T Biju and Dr Debabrata Maiti (Chemical Sciences); Dr Vimal Mishra (Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences) Dr Dipti Ranjan Sahoo and Dr Rajnish Kumar (Engineering Sciences) Dr Apoorva Khare and Dr Neeraj Kayal (Mathematical Sciences) Dr Dipyaman Ganguli (Medical Sciences) Dr Anindya Das and Dr Basudeb Dasgupta ( Physical Sciences)
Speaking On this occasion, Singh said that recent G20 summit became a point to showcase India’s technological capabilities and it’s economic strength. Launching the ‘One Week One Lab’ program of CSIR- National Institute of Science Communication and Policy research, the minister, who is also vicepresident of CSIR, said that “It’s time to tell the world what we are doing in the field of science for the public good.”
