NEW DELHI: Polling was held in 93 Lok Sabha constituencies across 11 states and Union Territories in the third phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on May 7. As many as 1,331 candidates were in the fray in thisphase, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said.Amid largely peaceful polls, a voter turnout of 60.19 percent was recorded till 5 pm. Among the 11 states that were polling in this phase, Assam, Goa and West Bengal recorded the highest voting percentages at 74.86%, 72.52% and 73.93% respectively.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were among the first voters. Before casting his vote the PM urged all to vote in record numbers. “Their active participation will certainly make the elections more vibrant,” the PM said in a post on X.
The fate of over 283 Lok Sabha seats would be sealed which means elections to more than half of the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be over in the first three phases.
