MICHIGAN: Men appeared to experience greater rates of mortality at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, which led researchers to establish a link between androgen receptorsand SARS-CoV-2 virus infection.
This discovery prompted researchers at Michigan Medicine to investigate proxalutamide, a medicine being developed to treat prostrate cancer that prevents the action of an androgen receptor-controlled enzyme called TMPRSS2 (transmembrane protease, serine 2), as a potential treatment for Covid.
“It has been now proved that proxalutamide is very effective in fighting off Covid,” concluded Dean Jones of the University of Michigan.
