NEW DELHI: The Election Commission announced on January 29 that elections for 56 Rajya Sabha seats from 15 states will be held on February 27. The terms of the 56 MPs in question are set to end on April 2 and April 3, as stated by the EC.
The elections will cover seats in Andhra Pradesh (three), Bihar (six), Chhatisgarh (one), Gujarat (four), Haryana (one), Himachal Pradesh (one), Karnataka (four), Madhya Pradesh (five), Maharashtra (six), Telangana (three), Uttar Pradesh (10), Uttarakhand (one), West Bengal (five), Odisha (three), and Rajasthan (three).
Among the MPs whose terms are ending are Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, and Samajwadi Party MP, actor Jaya Bachchan.
Nominations for the elections will be open from February 8 to February 15. The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is February 20, and polling and counting are scheduled for February 27.
