NEW DELHI: The government is working on a proposal to bring e-commerce rules under Consumer Protection Act, according to Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Once the e-commerce policy will be finalised, it will be put up in the public domain for views, national media reported on May 12 quoting Singh.
“We are holding discussions to harmonise e-commerce policy and e-commerce rules under the consumer protection act…While doing so, we will try to ensure that whether a regulator or some other way…rules that will ensure that the customer is the king,” Singh told reporters, adding that talks were at an advanced stage.
“So the e-commerce policy and e-commerce rules under the consumer protection act both will be brought on the same page…Kind of congruent with each other. That is the idea and we are working on that,” he said.
