NEW DELHI: Kristalina Georgieva, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued a warning about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the job market.
She said AI is going to hit the job market ‘like a tsunami’ and will dramatically reshape employment worldwide within the next two years.
She further said that AI could affect a significant portion of jobs, with developed countries potentially losing 60% of their jobs and the global figure standing at 40%.”We have very little time to get people ready for it, businesses ready for it,” said Georgieva.
Georgieva said that AI has the potential to increase productivity and efficiency in various sectors. However, she cautioned that it may also increase issues like misinformation and income inequality if not managed carefully.“It could bring a tremendous increase in productivity if we manage it well, but it can also lead to more misinformation and, of course, more inequality in our society,” said the IMF head.
