Doval and Wang Yi Meet for the Twenty-Fifth Time
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval holds the 25th round of Special Representatives’ Talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing today, and has called on Vice President Han Zheng. The mechanism dates to 2003 — twenty-five rounds in twenty-three years is roughly one a year, which is the point of it.

Trade Atta and Maida Are Free to Leave the Country
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has amended the export policy for wheat flour and related products with immediate effect, freeing shipments of atta, maida, semolina and other wheat derivatives. A separate notification moves specified wheat and durum wheat categories from prohibited to free — the restriction regime dated from the 2022 price shock.

Internal Security : Shah Wants the MAC Database Read by Machine
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, inaugurating the 9th National Security Strategies Conference 2026 in New Delhi, directed agencies to intensify measures against infiltration and to run AI-based analysis of the Multi-Agency Centre platforms. The MAC is the inter-agency intelligence-sharing spine; the instruction is about reading what is already in it.

Finance : Sitharaman Lands in Toronto Today
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman begins a Canada and United States visit today, running to 2 September. She co-chairs the inaugural India–Canada Economic and Financial Dialogue with counterpart François-Philippe Champagne, then leads India’s delegation to the G20 Finance Ministers’ meeting at Asheville on 31 August and 1 September.

Diplomacy : PM to Young Diplomats: Leave the Capital
Meeting the 2025 batch of Indian Foreign Service officer trainees at Seva Teerth, the Prime Minister asked them to build grassroots engagement in their countries of posting rather than confining themselves to host capitals. It is an instruction about where a mission’s influence actually accumulates — in the diaspora and the provinces.

Environment : India Reports 21.76 Million Hectares Restored
At UNCCD COP17 in Ulaanbaatar, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said India’s Second Bonn Challenge Progress Report records 21.76 million hectares brought under restoration in 2011–2020, generating about 1.22 billion person-days of work. India’s pledge is 26 million hectares by 2030 — so roughly four-fifths is already reported done.

Agriculture : Kharif Sowing Ends 1.5 Per Cent Below Last Year
Area sown as on 21 August stands at 1,056.70 lakh hectares against 1,072.77 lakh a year earlier. Against the normal of 1,104.45 lakh, the crop is at 95.7 per cent. Rice is down 13.19 lakh hectares; pulses are up 1.49 lakh, driven almost entirely by Uttar Pradesh adding 3.97 lakh hectares.

Health : EU Approval Now Counts in India
The Health Ministry has amended Rule 63 of the Medical Devices Rules, 2017 to add the European Union to the list of stringent regulatory jurisdictions whose clearance waives clinical investigation for devices without a predicate. The list previously ran to the US, UK, Australia, Canada and Japan — the EU is the sixth, and the largest single addition.

Trade : India’s Largest-Ever Delegation Is in Japan
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is leading over 200 industry representatives across Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka from 24 to 27 August — India’s largest business delegation to Japan. He told Keidanren, which speaks for more than 1,500 companies, that the number of Japanese firms in India “should double this decade”.

Sport : Two Centuries, and a Declaration at 503
Hundreds from Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal carried India to 503 for nine declared against Sri Lanka on a rain-hit second day of the second Test in Colombo. Sri Lanka closed on 8 for two. Separately, the Sports Ministry has cleared a 492-member Indian contingent for next month’s Asian Games in Japan.
