The Week in Review
The week began with the last day of a summit and ended with the last day of a trade fair, and between them India said more about how it intends to earn its living than in any seven days this year.
On 13 September the 18th BRICS Summit closed in New Delhi with the Prime Minister having held fifteen bilateral meetings in three days, eight of them on the final day, and the chair passing to China for 2027, according to Akashvani’s count of 13 September and the Prime Minister’s Office readouts of the same date.
On 19 September SEMICON India 2026 closed at Yashobhoomi with 56 memoranda and announcements signed over three days, 51,656 registrations and roughly 40,000 visitors, on the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s closing release of 19 September. In between, the Prime Minister switched on commercial production lines in Mohali and Surat, taking to five the number of working units among the twelve projects sanctioned under the first semiconductor programme.
The statisticians had a full week. Retail inflation for August came in at 4.82%, up from 4.45% in July, on the Ministry of Statistics’ release of 14 September, and Blitz’s reading of the published weights found silver and gold jewellery alone contributing 0.56 of a percentage point of it. Wholesale inflation on the Commerce Ministry’s 14 September release stood at 9.92%, with fuel and power at 22.93%. Exports of goods and services reached $82.68 billion in August, 25.4% higher than a year earlier, on the ministry’s 15 September release, and three lines of goods, electronics, petroleum products and engineering, accounted for 85% of the rise in merchandise exports.
The labour force survey for August, published on 15 September, put participation at 55.6% and unemployment at 5.0%, with rural India widening its lead over the cities.
The Union Cabinet’s decision of 16 September to lift the EPFO wage ceiling from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month, the first change since September 2014, brings 51 lakh more workers into the pension net at a cost the Prime Minister’s Office put at ₹11,339 crore a year.
The day before, six Chief Ministers signed the Kishau agreement in the Home Minister’s presence, a 232.6-metre dam on the Tons that the Home Ministry’s release of 15 September counts as the tenth inter-state water dispute settled since 2014. On 17 September the Agriculture Ministry recorded the first payments in India to farmers for the carbon their soil holds, ₹2.9 crore to 2,550 farmers in Punjab and Haryana. On 19 September the 20th Rozgar Mela handed more than 51,000 appointment letters, taking the programme’s total to about 12.75 lakh on the PIB backgrounder of that day.
India’s sportswomen and men gave the week its lift. The women’s cricket team won an eighth Asia Cup in Dubai on 13 September by 72 runs; the junior hockey men and women took both Asia Cups in Moqi the same evening; and Dhiraj Bommadevara became the first Indian man to win the recurve World Cup Final, in Saltillo.
The Asian Games opened in Aichi-Nagoya on 19 September with the Prime Minister’s good wishes to the contingent. Abroad, New Zealand’s Parliament passed the legislation for its free trade agreement with India by 93 votes to 29, India and Mercosur opened talks to widen their preferential pact, and India’s trade delegation took its three pillars, security, connectivity and opportunity, to the SCO trade ministers in Dushanbe.

The Sector Diary — eighteen fields, seven days
01 Governance and the Union Cabinet
New Delhi, 16 September. The Cabinet raised the EPFO wage ceiling to ₹25,000 a month, bringing more than 51 lakh workers under mandatory cover at an annual cost of about ₹11,339 crore against the present ₹10,250 crore, a rise of 10.6%, on the Prime Minister’s Office release of that date. The Expenditure Finance Committee had cleared it on 16 June.
New Delhi, 15 September. The Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana signed the Kishau Multipurpose Project agreement in the presence of the Home Minister and the Jal Shakti Minister; the Centre carries 90% of the cost, the Home Ministry said.
New Delhi, 19 September. The Prime Minister distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters at the 20th Rozgar Mela on the Prime Minister’s Office release; the PIB backgrounder of the same day counts 45 locations and about 12.75 lakh letters since the programme began in October 2022. The same day a two-day conference of State Finance Ministers on financing India’s path to a developed economy closed, with the Department of Economic Affairs noting four sovereign rating upgrades in 16 to 17 months.
02 Economy, GDP and public finance
New Delhi, 14 September. Retail inflation rose to 4.82% in August from 4.45%, with rural prices at 5.23% and urban at 4.31%; silver jewellery rose 107.11% on the year and tomatoes fell 31.09%, on the Ministry of Statistics’ CPI release. The next release is due on 12 October.
New Delhi, 14 September. Wholesale inflation stood at 9.92% in August against 9.78% in July, with fuel and power at 22.93% and manufactured products at 8.37%, on the Commerce Ministry’s WPI release. The gap between the two indices, 5.1 percentage points, is Blitz’s arithmetic.
New Delhi, 15 September. The August labour force bulletin put participation at 55.6%, the worker-population ratio at 52.8%, the highest since March, and unemployment at 5.0%, with rural unemployment at 4.1%, on the Ministry of Statistics’ PLFS release.
03 Markets, banking and insurance
New Delhi, 15 September. The Finance Ministry clarified that person-to-person UPI payments stay free at any amount and merchant payments up to ₹2,000 carry no charge; above that a 0.4% MDR applies, capped at ₹300, with a flat ₹5 for railways, telecom, insurance, fuel and farm inputs, on its release of that date.
Mumbai, 11 September. The National Stock Exchange filed its red herring prospectus with SEBI for an offer for sale of up to 12.64 crore shares, with no fresh issue, listing on BSE; the exchange reported a profit of ₹10,302 crore on operating revenue of ₹16,601 crore in 2025-26 and carries no debt, on the prospectus. The price band of ₹1,700 to ₹1,785 rests on the company’s announcement of 15 September; bidding closes on 21 September and listing is set for 24 September.
New Delhi, 14 September. The Reserve Bank proposed a framework under which only the disputed sum, not the whole account, is frozen in suspected cyber-fraud cases, on Akashvani’s report of that date; Blitz has not yet read the draft on the Reserve Bank’s site. On 14 September the Rural Development Department and PFRDA signed an agreement to take the National Pension System to villages through self-help-group networks, as Pension Sakhis.
04 Industry, manufacturing and MSME
New Delhi, 17 to 19 September. SEMICON India 2026 drew more than 600 exhibitors from 52 countries and recorded 56 memoranda and announcements; the Prime Minister inaugurated production lines at CDIL Semiconductor, Mohali, and Suchi Semicon, Surat, on MeitY’s closing release of 19 September. New Delhi, 17 September. The Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme had sanctioned 106 projects in 15 States with ₹69,548 crore of investment by August, 38 plants already producing, on the PIB backgrounder of that date; against the scheme’s ₹40,000 crore outlay that is ₹1.74 of private money for every rupee of public support, Blitz’s arithmetic.
New Delhi, 18 September. PM Vishwakarma completed three years with 30 lakh artisans registered, 24.50 lakh trained and 6.18 lakh given loans totalling ₹5,297 crore at 5%, on the MSME Ministry’s release; one registered artisan in five has a loan.
05 Trade, exports and FTAs
New Delhi, 15 September. Total exports in August reached $82.68 billion against $65.93 billion a year earlier; merchandise exports rose to $43.81 billion, and electronics, petroleum products and engineering goods carried 85% of that rise, on the Commerce Ministry’s monthly release and Blitz’s leg-sum check, which held.
Wellington, 16 September. New Zealand’s Parliament passed the legislation implementing its free trade agreement with India by 93 votes to 29; all Indian goods enter duty-free and New Zealand has pledged $20 billion of investment over 15 years, on Akashvani’s report of that date.
New Delhi, 14 September. India and Mercosur launched talks to widen their preferential trade agreement and signed a first additional protocol on electronic certificates of origin, on the Commerce Ministry’s release; the terms of reference are not yet final. On 16 September exporters of consignments up to ₹3 lakh were exempted from the registration-cum-membership certificate, on Doordarshan News; on 17 September India’s delegation attended the SCO trade ministers’ meeting in Dushanbe, on the ministry’s release of 18 September.
06 Infrastructure, transport and urban development
New Delhi, 16 September. The urban housing count under PMAY-U passed one crore completed and delivered homes against 1.25 crore sanctioned, 80%, on Doordarshan News’s report of the government’s figures to 9 August.
New Delhi, 18 September. The Railway Ministry cleared the 38.21 km Mukutban–Gadchandur new line at ₹493 crore and the 10.86 km Chowk–Karjat doubling at ₹497 crore; a kilometre of doubling on the Mumbai side costs 3.55 times a kilometre of new line in Vidarbha, Blitz’s arithmetic from the two releases.
Varanasi, 15 September. The Road Transport Ministry set out the ₹10,998 crore Varuna elevated corridor, 43.218 km, expected to cut the station-to-airport journey from about 60 to about 20 minutes, on its release; that is ₹254 crore a kilometre. On 13 September the Railways recorded August freight loading of 137.9 million tonnes, 5.4% up on the year, on Akashvani.
07 Energy, renewables and climate
Houston, 14 to 16 September. India took three pillars, energy security and affordable baseload, permitting efficiency and critical minerals, to the G20 energy ministerial under the US presidency, on the Power Ministry’s release of 11 September. On 14 September India cleared power exports of up to 600 MW to Nepal for 18 hours a day until 31 December, on the ministry and Akashvani.
New Delhi, 14 September. Commercial coal auctions have put 147 mines in nine States to 44 new companies since June 2020 and yielded about ₹3,090 crore in 2025-26, with captive and commercial output near 210 million tonnes, on the Coal Ministry’s release; the ministry’s 22% annual growth claim recomputes correctly.
New Delhi, 19 September. The Prime Minister opened the National Green Tribunal’s two-day conference on the future of environment and climate, citing solar capacity above 160 GW from 2 GW a dozen years ago and 50 lakh homes solarised under PM Surya Ghar, on the Prime Minister’s Office release. Data-centre capacity reached 1.57 GW in August from about 375 MW in 2020, on the PIB backgrounder of 14 September.
08 Agriculture, rural development and cooperatives
Ludhiana, 17 September. India’s first payments for soil carbon reached 2,550 farmers in Punjab and Haryana, more than ₹2.9 crore for over 50,000 credits on about 30,000 acres, on the Agriculture Ministry’s release; that is about ₹11,373 a farmer and about ₹580 a credit, Blitz’s arithmetic. Punjab’s paddy-season farm fires fell to 5,114 in 2025, 93% below 2021.
New Delhi, 18 September. The Food Department doubled the sugar stock limit for bulk consumers to 30 days, the extra 15 days only from imported sugar, and recorded retail prices at ₹58.50 a kilogram from ₹65 in August, a 10% fall against a 25% fall at the mill gate, on its release; the season’s fair price stays at ₹365 a quintal from 1 October.
Jodhpur, 13 September. Four moth bean lines bred at ICAR-CAZRI stood through a 35-day dry spell, on the Agriculture Ministry’s release; and on 18 September the Animal Husbandry Department reported foot-and-mouth outbreaks down from 132 in 2019 to 20 to August 2026, an 84.8% fall, Blitz’s arithmetic, on a partial year.
09 Health and pharmaceuticals
New Delhi, 17 September. The Health Ministry proposed amendments to the Drugs Rules, 1945, making CCTV mandatory in chemist shops and tightening oversight of Schedule H, h3 and X medicines, through draft notification GSR 791(E) of 8 September; objections go to the Under Secretary (Drugs), on the ministry’s release.
New Delhi, 14 September. The Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign reported reaching 34.54 crore citizens, 13.70 crore of them young people and 10.64 crore women, with 755 de-addiction centres opened in two years, on the Social Justice Ministry’s release; young people and women together are 70.5% of the reach, Blitz’s arithmetic.
Andhra Pradesh, 12 September. The Health Minister opened ten critical care blocks and twelve integrated public health laboratories in the State, part of a ₹1,271.80 crore programme, on the Health Ministry’s release read on 13 September.
10 Education, skilling and youth
New Delhi, 15 September. Seventy competitors in 63 skills, eleven of them new categories for India, left for the 48th WorldSkills in Shanghai, 22 to 27 September, on the Skill Development Ministry’s release.
New Delhi, 17 September. The Education Ministry opened a six-month bridge course, run by NIOS under an NCTE framework, for primary teachers appointed with a B.Ed. between 28 June 2018 and 11 August 2023, following the Supreme Court’s judgment of 8 April 2024, on its release; the number of eligible teachers was not given.
Navi Mumbai, 14 September. The Home Minister presented the Rajbhasha Gaurav and Kirti awards for 2025-26 at the sixth All-India Rajbhasha Sammelan on Hindi Diwas, on Akashvani; Hindi was adopted as the official language on 14 September 1949, 77 years ago.
11 Science, space and technology
Bengaluru, 14 September. A JNCASR team led by Kanishka Biswas reported a thermoelectric figure of merit of 1.7 in thallium copper selenide, with heat moving in wave-like coherence, in Science Advances, on the Science Ministry’s release; a laboratory result, not a device, and thallium is toxic.
Sambalpur, 17 September. A new Doppler weather radar took the national network to 51 from 14 in 2014, on the Earth Sciences Ministry’s release; the release’s arithmetic on the planned total, 51 plus about 40 making about 81, does not add and is printed as given. On 14 September ISRO’s EOS-05 completed its third and final orbit-raising manoeuvre and NISAR S-band data products were released, on ISRO’s site.
New Delhi, 17 September. The Principal Scientific Adviser’s office launched a life-cycle carbon calculator for municipal waste built by IISc, IIT Madras and IIT (BHU) on six city case studies, to be used in tenders, on its release. On 15 September the Science Ministry opened the SPROUT facility at BRIC-NIPGR, where a chickpea generation takes about 40 days.
12 Defence and internal security
New Delhi, 15 September. At the VIMARSH meet the Defence Minister launched a framework for DRDO to share software source code with licensed industry, with nine licensing agreements to thirteen firms and 25% of the defence research budget earmarked for the private sector, on the Defence Ministry’s release; 2,300 technology transfers have gone to 1,100 firms.
Kochi, 18 September. The keel of the first Next Generation Missile Vessel was laid at Cochin Shipyard, a day after steel was cut for the second, with all major role-defining equipment made in India, on the Defence Ministry’s releases of 18 and 19 September. HAL was to hand over LCA Tejas twin-seat trainers and HTT-40 basic trainers to the Air Force, and Dhruv NG helicopters to Pawan Hans, in Bengaluru on 18 September, on the ministry’s release of 17 September.
Auli and Pokhran, 14 to 16 September. The 22nd Yudh Abhyas opened with 600 soldiers a side at the foreign training node in Uttarakhand, and the Air Force’s first Dronathon put more than twenty firms through the Pokhran range, on the Defence Ministry’s releases of 14 and 15 September.
13 Law, justice and Parliament
New Delhi, 12 September. The third National Lok Adalat of the year settled 2.10 crore of 2.95 crore cases taken up, 71.35%, worth ₹13,589.28 crore, on NALSA’s results graphic; nine in ten settlements were pre-litigation matters, Blitz’s arithmetic. Parliament was not in session.
New Delhi, 18 September. TRAI brought machine-dialled calls under its spam framework: a termination charge of up to ₹0.05 a minute, an AI-assisted complaint threshold of three in ten days instead of five, headers suspended within six hours and a 15-day consumer appeal, on the regulator’s release.
New Delhi, 19 September. The President appointed 14 judicial officers as judges and additional judges of the Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Jharkhand and Karnataka High Courts, on the Law Ministry’s release.
14 Social welfare, women and child, tribal affairs
New Delhi, 13 September. Of 90,942 sewer and septic-tank workers profiled, 87,037, or 95.7%, have received protective equipment and 76,247 insurance, with ₹34.17 crore of subsidy for 364 machines, on the Social Justice Ministry’s release; among 3.78 lakh waste pickers, 34.8% have equipment so far.
New Delhi, 14 September. The Women and Child Development Minister met Nigeria’s minister on women-led development, with Nigeria a partner country in India’s BRICS year, on the ministry’s release. On 16 September the Jal Shakti Ministry launched Swachh Seva Aankalan, an annual digital self-assessment for every gram panchayat’s sanitation service.
New Delhi, 19 September. The Petroleum Ministry said biometric Aadhaar authentication becomes mandatory for subsidised LPG refills from 1 October; 27.43 crore consumers, 89.9%, have already completed it, which puts the base at about 30.5 crore connections, Blitz’s arithmetic.
15 The States and the North East
Aizawl, 13 September. Mizoram’s 51.38 km Bairabi–Sairang line completed a year with more than 15 lakh passengers and ₹54 crore in ticket sales, on the Railway Ministry’s release; that is ₹360 a passenger. On 15 September the Railways opened five Gati Shakti cargo terminals in Gujarat and ran the first salt train in stainless-steel containers from Shivlakha.
Shimla and Chennai, 15 and 14 September. The CAG’s composite audit report No. 1 of 2026 for Himachal Pradesh, sent to the government on 24 March and laid on 3 September, covers e-procurement, e-way bills and GST monitoring; five reports on Tamil Nadu, including Jal Jeevan Mission and Smart Cities, were laid on 8 September, on the CAG’s report register.
Kutch, 14 September. Gujarat has planted 27,652 of the 29,250 hectares of mangroves targeted under MISHTI, 94.5%, and a jump-started Great Indian Bustard chick has survived three months in the wild, on the Environment Ministry’s release. Uttar Pradesh’s power plants held 8.41 lakh tonnes of coal on 15 September, up 16% in a fortnight, on the Coal Ministry.
16 Culture, heritage and tourism
Gandhinagar, 15 to 18 September. The tenth World Circular Economy Forum, the first in South Asia, opened with 62 countries and 135 exhibitors; the Chief Minister described how Somnath’s offerings of flowers, milk and cloth are processed and the abhishek water returned as Som-Ganga jal, on Doordarshan News of 15 September.
Hanle, 7 to 12 September. Forty amateur astronomers from twelve States attended the fourth star party in the Hanle Dark Sky Reserve and 1,200 people came to the open night on 10 September, on the Science Ministry’s release of 15 September; 25 local astronomy ambassadors have been trained over three years, 48 visitors each that evening.
New Delhi, 15 September. The Vice-President marked 25 years of the Indian Council of World Affairs as an institution of national importance at Sapru House, on his secretariat’s release; the council itself dates from 1943.
17 Sport
Dubai, 13 September. India won a record eighth women’s Asia Cup, 183 for 5 against Sri Lanka’s 111 all out, with Shafali Verma’s 68 off 39 balls and Charani’s 4 for 20, on ESPNcricinfo’s scorecard and Akashvani of 14 September; the run rates were 9.15 against 5.55.
Moqi and Saltillo, 13 September. India’s junior men beat South Korea 4–1 and the junior women beat China 1–0 to take both Asia Cups and qualify for the Junior World Cups, on Akashvani; and Dhiraj Bommadevara beat Japan’s Junya Nakanishi 6–5 in a shoot-off to become the first Indian man to win the recurve World Cup Final, on World Archery’s report.
Aichi-Nagoya, 19 September. Emperor Naruhito declared the 20th Asian Games open at Mizuho Park, and Manu Bhaker and Pawan Sehrawat led India’s parade, Sehrawat replacing Tajinderpal Singh Toor, whose ceremonial kit did not arrive in time, on Akashvani’s report of 19 September; the Prime Minister sent his good wishes to the contingent, on the Prime Minister’s Office release. India’s women cricketers had already reached the semi-final with an eight-wicket win over Japan and meet Bangladesh on 20 September.
18 India and the world
New Delhi, 13 September. The BRICS summit closed with the Prime Minister calling the grouping an ecosystem of solutions; fifteen bilaterals in three days included Kazakhstan on critical minerals, the Philippines joining the CDRI, South Africa invited into the big cat alliance and Nigeria’s Vice-President, on the Prime Minister’s Office readouts and Akashvani. The 12 September readouts of the meeting with China’s President, from both capitals, are the record of that day.
Dushanbe, 17 September. The 25th SCO trade ministers’ meeting agreed a 2026–2030 action plan to go to heads of government and approved a working group on the creative economy; the next meeting is in Uzbekistan in 2027, on the Commerce Ministry’s release of 18 September. On 14 September the External Affairs Minister co-chaired the 19th India–Vietnam Joint Commission in New Delhi, on Akashvani.
New Delhi, 19 September. The Prime Minister received a telephone call from the President of the UAE, on the Prime Minister’s Office; INS Trishul made a port call at Alexandria, on the Defence Ministry. Talks with Canada on a comprehensive economic partnership are to be expedited, on Akashvani of 19 September, with no draft or date yet public. The ninth Air Force flight of relief for flood-hit Nepal carried 11 tonnes of medicines, tents and hygiene kits on 19 September, on the External Affairs Ministry as reported by Akashvani.
From two fabs to a whole ecosystem
In three days at Yashobhoomi the semiconductor mission stopped talking about factories and started counting the pieces around them. The numbers say how far that has gone, and where they stop.
The fifth SEMICON India ran from 17 to 19 September in Dwarka under the line “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”, and the phrase was doing more work than a slogan usually does. Under the first semiconductor programme, which the PIB backgrounder of 17 September puts at ₹76,000 crore, twelve projects were approved. When the Prime Minister opened the show on 17 September he switched on, by video, commercial production lines at CDIL Semiconductor in Mohali and Suchi Semicon in Surat, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s closing release of 19 September counts five of the twelve as now operating. Five of twelve is 41.7%. The other seven are still buildings and orders.
What the hall held
The ministry’s own count of the fair is the most exact thing to come out of the week: more than 600 exhibitors, about 300 of them international, delegations from 52 countries, six country pavilions (Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore and Sweden), twelve State pavilions, more than 150 speakers, 51,656 registrations and a cumulative footfall of about 40,000. Set those last two against each other and 77% of the people who registered turned up. Over three days that is about 13,300 a day, on a floor the ministry had described before the event as 15,000 square metres. Fifty-six memoranda, announcements and initiatives were recorded, spanning design, fabrication, packaging, equipment and materials, power electronics, AI and high-performance computing, research, logistics and skilling.
The one figure everybody wanted, the money, did not come from the ministry’s release. The minister told the conference that Semicon 2.0 had drawn investment commitments of about ₹1 lakh crore, or $11 to 12 billion, to be realised over two to three years, and Blitz carries that on two independent reports of 17 and 18 September, ANI’s and Business Today’s, because no government document of the week states it. It is a commitment, counted by the government, not capital in the ground.
The second programme, and its six pillars
Semicon 2.0, approved by the Cabinet in July 2026 with an outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore, is 1.68 times the first programme, and the Prime Minister’s Office release of 17 September gives its dollar scale as about $13.5 billion. The ministry’s closing release lists six pillars: design, machines and materials, new fabs, advanced packaging, research, and talent. What is new is not the fab but the five other words. A fab buys wafers, gases, chemicals, photomasks, tooling and test equipment, and until this year nearly all of that was imported. The backgrounder of 17 September names the pieces India still buys in: printed circuit boards, camera and display modules, connectors, capacitors, lithium-ion cells and rare-earth magnets.
That is where the second scheme of the week comes in. The Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme, notified on 8 April 2025 with ₹22,919 crore and raised in the 2026-27 Budget to ₹40,000 crore, had by August 2026 sanctioned 106 projects in 15 States, with ₹69,548 crore of committed investment, 38 plants already in production and 16 more in advanced construction. For every rupee of public outlay the scheme has drawn ₹1.74 of private money; the projected output of ₹5.34 lakh crore is ₹7.68 for every rupee invested; and the 74,628 direct jobs projected come at about ₹93 lakh of investment each, which is what capital-heavy manufacturing looks like. Just over half the projects, 50.9%, are producing or close to it. All four ratios are Blitz’s arithmetic from the backgrounder’s figures; none is in the document.
The cheapest scarce input
The Prime Minister’s Office release of 17 September carries the number that will decide the rest: of a target of one lakh chip designers, 70,000 have been trained. That is 70%, with 30,000 to go and no date on them. What no document of the week states is how many of the 70,000 are working in the industry, and Blitz has not estimated it. The same release records solar capacity above 160 GW and nuclear generation opened to private participation, which is the answer to the question a fab asks before it asks anything else: where the power comes from. The Prime Minister’s own framing on 17 September was that the country had moved from policy discussions and project planning to commercial production, and the two lines in Mohali and Surat are the evidence he offered.
Where the week’s numbers stop is worth stating plainly. The ₹1 lakh crore is a commitment. Seven of twelve first-phase projects are not yet producing. The output and jobs figures for the components scheme are projections. Registrations and footfall measure interest, not orders. Blitz prints all of it as the documents state it, with the arithmetic shown, and the reader can judge the distance between the hall and the factory floor.
Why it matters — what India gains
India imports the electronics it assembles. Every plant that makes a capacitor, a display module or a power-management chip here shortens a supply line that runs through East Asia, and every designer trained here earns a wage that was being paid abroad. The components scheme’s ₹69,548 crore is the first time the money behind the pieces has been larger than the money behind the fabs, and five working chip units, from none three years ago, is the first proof that the mission produces silicon and not only announcements. That is what self-reliance looks like when it is counted.

Publish, each quarter, the number of first-phase units in commercial production and the volume they ship, so that the mission is measured by output rather than by approvals. Put a date on the remaining 30,000 designers, and count how many of the 70,000 are employed in the sector. And state the ₹1 lakh crore of commitments in a government document, project by project, so that it can be tracked as the components scheme already is.
