Last days of India’s longest internal insurgency, say top cops

The Maoist movement in India is among the longest and most lethal homegrown insurgencies that the world has seen. It is a menace that successive governments in the past have endlessly combated without much success.

“The Modi Government’s multipronged assault against Maoists has eliminated them almost totally in some states like UP and forced them to a tight corner in many shrunken areas wherever they have managed to survive. It’s a success story without a parallel,” says Vikram Singh, former Director-General of Police.

Singh is not the only former top cop to credit the Modi Government with a decisive victory in the Indian State’s 75-year-long battle against militant Left-wing extremism. Thirteen other former IPs officers have joined him under the banner of ‘Track the Truth’ and issued a statement that called the policy launched by Prime Minister Modi a “game-changer”.

The other IPS officers include former J&K DG SP Vaid, former Maharashtra DG D Shivanandan, former Madhya Pradesh DG SK Raut, former Bihar DGP DN Gautam, and other IPS officers belonging to the 1983, 1984, and 1986 batches. In the statement, the top police
