L&T bags metal orders worth Rs 15,000 crore

Blitz Bureau

NEW DELHI: Larsen &Toubro (L&T) on July 20 announced that its metals business has secured multiple domestic orders, including contracts from public sector companies, with the combined value falling in the company’s ‘mega’ category of Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 15,000 crore.

In a regulatory filing, the engineering and construction major said the orders have been awarded by leading companies in the metals and mining sector and include projects aimed at expanding iron ore, steel and zinc processing capacities.

“The metals and minerals (M&M) business vertical of L&T has secured multiple orders from leading domestic metals and mining companies, reinforcing its leadership in delivering world-class engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) solutions across the metals and minerals value chain,” the company said.

Among the key wins is a contract from India’s largest iron ore producer, a public sector company, for Package BE-01C of an 18 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Iron Ore Handling Plant in Chhattisgarh.

The project forms part of the company’s expansion plan to increase its iron ore production capacity to 100 MTPA by 2030.

L&T’s scope of work includes design and engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of a downhill conveyor system, screening plant, stockpile, yard equipment, a Rapid Wagon Loading System (RWLS), and associated auxiliary facilities.

The company has also secured another order from a Navratna public sector undertaking for the expansion of a steel plant in West Bengal, increasing its production capacity from 2.5 MTPA to 7.1 MTPA.

In addition, L&T has won an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a zinc processing plant.
The scope of the project includes design and engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning and associated site services, further strengthening the company’s presence in the non-ferrous metallurgical segment.
