NLC Mumbai Declaration resolves to combat corruption & criminalisation of politics, fight casteism, communalism, and all forms of discrimination

Sanjay jogThe National Legislators’ Conference (NLC) on concluding day on Saturday proposed a Mumbai declaration to affirm that The Constitution of Swatantra Bharat, sculpted by BHARATRATNA DR. BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR is one of the most complete and inclusive constitutions of the world, which truly reflects the spirit and cultural ethos of Bharat.

‘’We, the members of state legislatures and delegates of the National Legislators’ Conference Bharat 2023, gathered here, do solemnly resolve to strengthen democracy and foster a progressive and inclusive Global Society by adhering to the time-tested BHARATIYA ETHOS of VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM,’’ said the Mumbai Preamble which was read by the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar.

Mumbai Declaration :

1. We declare our commitment to combat corruption by promoting transparency, ensuring complete accountability, responsibility and and encouraging citizens’ participation in the making of laws and policies as well as in their strict implementation. Together, we commit to bring in transparency in generation and management of election campaign funds, which is crucial to curb the corruption in the system.

2. We pledge to combat the criminalization of politics. We stand united against any form of physical violence, unlawful activity and commit to upholding the values of integrity, trustworthiness, and ethical conduct. We strive to restore public trust and ensure that politics remains a noble pursuit for the advancement of society. We appeal to the Parliament of Bharat (India) to enact necessary legislation to prevent individuals with criminal background from participating in the electoral process.

3. We solemnly declare our unwavering commitment to fight casteism, communalism, and all forms of discrimination. We strive to encourage a society where Bharatiyatva (Indianness) is the only identity and every individual is treated with respect and dignity. We strive to uphold our integrity and fairness towards responsible governance for the betterment of all.

4. We firmly declare our resolve to break free from the shackles of the colonial traditions and nurture our national values. We embrace our rich cultural heritage, wisdom, and diversity, fostering inclusivity, mutual respect, and harmony. Together, we build a progressive society rooted in our indigenous ethos for a brighter future for everyone in the world.

5. We recognize the urgent need to reverse climate change and promote sustainable lifestyles to implement robust environmental policies, invest in renewable energy, conserve natural resources, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. We commit to raising awareness, embracing innovation, and engaging in international cooperation. Together, we stand against the greed of consumption and luxury to create a sustainable future, safeguarding the planet for generations to come and ensuring the well-being of all living beings.

We, the members of state legislatures and delegates of the National Legislators’ Conference Bharat 2023, are committed to creating a stress-free, happy and healthy society, based on trust and understanding and a sense of camaraderie amongst our constituents.

We will work unitedly and diligently to bring to reality the dream of the Great Noble Son of India Swami Vivekananda and make Bharat Mata the Knowledge Corridor of the World, which will show the pathway of happiness, contentment, and peace as VISHWAGURU in the 21st Century.

In upholding these principles, we reiterate our commitment to be Together for Bharat and invite all stakeholders to join us in this collective effort for the betterment of our nation and its citizens.
