Rubio, PM Modi discuss ‘sustained progress’ in bilateral ties

Blitz Bureau

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on May 23 discussed sustained progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and issues related to regional and global peace and security.

Rubio briefed PM Modi on the “sustained progress” in bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

Rubio also extended an invite on behalf of US President Donald Trump for PM Modi to visit the White House in the near future.

After the meeting, PM Modi said that both countries will continue to work closely for the global good.
PM Modi said in a social media post that India and the US will continue to work closely for the global good. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval were also present during the meeting.

Rubio shared US perspective on various regional and global issues, including the situation in West Asia.
PM Modi reaffirmed India’s consistent support for peace efforts and reiterated the call for peaceful resolution of the conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

Secretary Rubio is on a four-day visit to India to take part in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting on May 26. He had arrived in Kolkata from the US on May 23, where he visited the Missionaries of Charity and paid homage to Mother Teresa’s legacy.

Jaishankar and Rubio are scheduled to hold bilateral talks on May 24. The visit is expected to add further strength to India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
