CALIFORNIA: Scientists from the University of California, have cloned bacteria that can recognise the presence of tumor in a live organism, ushering in a new era of technologically powerful biological sensors.
Their discovery, which detected cancer in the colons of mice, may lead to novel biosensors that can recognise diverse infections, cancers, and other disorders.
The advancement is described in the journal Science. Bacteria previously have been designed to carry out various diagnostic and therapeutic functions, but lacked the ability to identify specific DNA sequences and mutations outside of cells. The new “Cellular Essay for Targeted CRISPR-discriminated Horizontal gene transfer,is designed to do just that.
