NEW DELHI: Indian Test captain Shubman Gill’s record-breaking display in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was rewarded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as he was adjudged the Player of the Month for July 2025 after beating South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder and England skipper Ben Stokes to the award.
In his debut assignment leading the Indian team in the longest format of the game, the 25-year-old made a stunning tally of 754 runs at an average of 75.9 with four centuries to his name. In these, 567 runs and three tons came in the month of July, which includes his stunning effort in the second Test at Edgbaston, which saw him knock off 269 and 161. The tally of 430 runs in the match is the second-highest aggregate total ever and the most runs a player has made in an away Test match
This is the fourth time in his career that Gill has won the prestigious award, having previously been crowned the winner in January 2023, September 2023, and February 2025. The Indian captain is the first player to achieve the remarkable feat, breaking a long-standing world record of Pakistan star Babar Azam, who won it thrice with an award each in 2021 (April), 2022 (March), and 2023 (August).
Gill has also become the first player to win the prize multiple times in a year, having won it twice in 2023 (January, September) and in 2025. The only other players to achieve the rare feat are Jasprit Bumrah (June and December 2024) and Kaminu Mendis (March and September 2024).
