NEW DELHI: Tripura and Manipur were among the states that recorded the highest turnout at 68.92 and 68.48 per cent respectively in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26.
Polling took place in 88 seats across 13 states in the second phase, including all 20 constituencies in Kerala and 14 of 28 seats in Karnataka. Besides, polling also took place in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Bengal, Manipur, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Several prominent people who cast their votes, included Congress’s Shashi Tharoor, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, author and philanthropist Sudha Murty and her husband and Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, actor Prakash Raj, Rahul Dravid and his former teammate Anil Kumble, among others.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission received over 290 complaints in Bengal, mostly related to EVM malfunctioning. In a letter to the poll body, the ruling Trinamool Congress sought its immediate intervention.
