NEW DELHI: THE nine-day Divya Kala Mela, which concluded on December 21 at Kartavya Path near India Gate, reinforced the message that disability does not limit potential but perspective does. Organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the mela served as a national platform highlighting entrepreneurial skills, creativity and economic contribution of Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs.
The Delhi edition marked the 28th edition of the mela since it was launched in 2022. Across all editions held nationwide, more than 2,360 Divyang participants have taken part, generating business of over Rs 23 crore. In the latest edition, around 100 Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from 20 states showcased products ranging from handicrafts and home décor to organic food items, with sales crossing Rs 2 crore.
Employment and financial inclusion were focus areas of the mela. A job fair saw participation from 157 Divyang youth, with 99 shortlisted and several receiving job offers. Cultural and experiential activities were among the highlights of the event.
