Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra engaged in a series of high-level discussions during his recent visit to the United States, including meetings with Deputy Secretary of Defence Kathleen Hicks. The deliberations focused on assessing the progress made in strengthening bilateral strategic alliance. Kwatra was in the US from April 10 to 12.
According to Pentagon spokesperson Eric Pahon, the discussions focused on identifying priorities for boosting defence collaboration between the two countries. One key area was working on plans for USIndia Defence Industrial Cooperation.
Kwatra and Hicks both agreed on the importance of major defence partnership, which supports a free and open Indo-Pacific. They praised achievements like joint projects on fighter jet engines and armoured vehicles, and the success of the IndiaUS Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (Indus-X) in promoting innovation.
They also talked about expanding military cooperation across different areas and addressing security issues, especially concerning China’s actions in the Indo-Pacific region.
