NEW DELHI: To commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Indonesia, Skyesports, India’s premier esports tournament organiser, has joined forces with the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi to host an esports showcase match.
The event is set to take place at the upcoming India Gaming Show 2024, to be organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry in Pune from March 14 to 16.
Since formalising their diplomatic bonds in 1951, India and Indonesia have nurtured a closely-knit alliance, with Indonesia securing its position as India’s second-largest trading ally in the ASEAN domain.
Bilateral trade between the two nations has flourished over the years, surging to $26.17 billion in 2021-22 and escalating further to $35.54 billion from January to November 2022. Significantly, India stands as the second-largest importer of coal and crude palm oil from Indonesia, additionally sourcing minerals, rubber, pulp and paper, and hydrocarbon reserves.
The blooming realm of esports has captivated the masses in both the countries, with Indonesia boasting a staggering 180 million gamers and India proudly flaunting 421 million gaming enthusiasts, as per a recent Niko Partners’ Asia Games Market Report.
This ever-increasing gaming fraternity presents a fertile ground for India and Indonesia to showcase their gaming prowess and chart avenues for collaborative ventures.
At the centre of Skyesports Grand Slam event lies an exhilarating face-off between a premier Indian squad and their Indonesian counterparts in the revered PC game, Counter-Strike 2.
