THE Unesco Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA) has appointed Nisha, an alumna of the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK, and IGNOU, India, as Regional Director and Representative.
Nisha will be supervising Unesco’s operations across nine countries: Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
As Regional Director and Representative, she will be leading regional and national collaborations aimed at fostering resilient and dynamic communities and societies in Southern Africa. Her responsibilities will cover Unesco’s programmatic, advocacy, and normative work, spanning across education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and information and communication within the region.
With a career spanning 35 years, Nisha is a fervent advocate of UN reforms. Prior to her tenure with Unesco, she served internationally with several organisations, including Oxfam GB, Christian Aid, UNDP, UNIFEM, and ILO, operating across diverse regions such as the East and Horn of Africa, South Asia, and the Arab States.
This appointment signifies a crucial step forward in Unesco’s commitment to promoting global cooperation and sustainable development in the Southern African context.
