NEW DELHI: The Department of Defence Production has notified four Positive Indigeinisation Lists (PILs) consisting of 4,666 items, including Line Replacement Units (LRUs)/ Sub-systems/Spares and Components for Defence Public Sector Undertakings, said a Defence Ministry statement.
The first PIL had 2,851 items while the second 107, with the third PIL comprising 780 and 928 items in the fourth. The indigenisation of these items has been achieved by Defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs) through different routes under ‘Make’ category and in-house development through MSMEs and private Indian industry.
Under the Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020, ‘Make’ Category aims to achieve self-reliance by involving greater participation of Indian industry. The initiative thus provides impetus to the growth in economy, enhanced investment in defence and reduction in import dependence of DPSUs.
The DPSUs initiate procurement action for these notified items and the Government’s ‘Srijan’ portal dashboard publishes the Expression of Interest and Request for Proposal for the items.
Gaining self-sufficiency in defence production would not only guarantee long-term security of our country but also give significant boost to the domestic industry engaged in design, development and manufacturing of weapons and platforms.
As per preliminary estimates, more than Rs 1,75,000 crores worth of orders would be placed with the Indian Industry in the next 5-10 years.
