- CM Eknath Shinde directs NMIAL for an early commissioning by March-April 2024
- After the completion of all phases the airport can handle 9 crore passengers annually which can be extended up to 10 crore passengers annually
- Total capex is estimated at Rs 19,646 crore
- Airport is spread over 1160 hectares of land & it has an unique advantage of connected with multimodal transport comprising MTHL, coastal road, water transport, metro, NH4
Shinde said that the NMIA is connected with multi-modal transport comprising the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, Mumbai Pune Express way missing link, metro rail, coastal road, water transport and NH 4. Passengers from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Raigad can travel from the proposed airport which is expected to substantially reduce the burden on the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai. He added that the government has addressed various issues so that the airport can be commissioned before December 2024. The passengers from Pune can travel in an hour to the airport.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), which is the nodal agency for the NMIA development, has almost removed 17 million cubic meter of rock. The total capital expenditure is estimated at Rs 19,646 crore.
According to the CIDCO presentation, ‘’The NMIA has a Unique Value Proposition comprising two Code-F parallel runways capable of independent & simultaneous operation, three terminals 3 of 20 MPPA capacity each interconnected to offer flexibility to passengers and airlines +1 of 30 MPPA capacity. It will lead to major economic trigger for Mumbai Metropolitan Region with the creation of lakhs of direct and indirect jobs.’’
Till May 2023, an expenditure of Rs 7,571 crore comprising Rs 3,456 crore by CIDCO and Rs 4,115 crore by NMIAL has been incurred. Almost 45.74% physical work and 38.54% financial progress have been done by CIDCO while 34.85% of physical work and 25.75% financial progress by NMIAL.
The Chief Minister’s Office has directed Thane to establish NMIA Dedicated Seamless Road Connectivity for Thane commuters. The CIDCO will prepare Detailed Project Report of the said corridor while the appointment of consultant for preparation of Detailed Project Report is under process by CIDCO. The timeline proposed is 2031 for the proposed corridor with a total length of 20.2 km.
In addition, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has proposed a 9.0 km long 40m wide road to connect Karanja village (Dronagiri Node) & Rewas village across Dharamtar Creek. The proposed bridge is the part of Revas –Reddy (MSH-4) Coastal highway and connects the CIDCO’s Coastal Road at sector-53 in Dronagiri Node. Rewas – Karanja Bridge will facilitate Cargo handling due to closeness to JNPT, proposed Revas port and new airport terminal.
Further, various chemical and petrochemical projects like Thal- Vaishet and I.P.C.L. and their ancillary projects at and around Roha and other industries have come up in Uran and Alibaug Talukas of Raigad District. Seamless connectivity from MTHL to Karanja explored along NH-348 and Dronagiri Coastal Road (DCR) which is about 11 Km by providing interchange between NH-348 & DCR at Navghar village and flyover on DCR at Khopta road junction.
According to Adani Group, the NMIA will be India’s most efficient airport with a passenger capacity of 90 MPPA with 256 Code C Eq. stands & more than 2.5MT of Cargo on a limited site area of 1160 Ha (in terms of annual pax / ha , i.e ratio of airport capacity to airport site area). It has been planned as one of the most energy efficient & environmentally sustainable airports in the world. It will be India’s 1st Airport with dedicated SAF Storage & Re- Fuelling and there will be dedicated ATF Supply lines to NMIA and 36 MW of Solar Power generation.
All Terminals will be inter- connected on airside & landside with a 10KM long APM system to serve as an integrated aviation Hub , offering full flexibility to passengers & airline. The airport is planned with India’s largest General Aviation facility, with more 64 GA aircrafts stands and also with separate Heliport operations. The airport will have the largest MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) facility.
