No religion is under threat in India, rather there is a peaceful coexistence; which is unique and wonderful. In a clear message to separatists and naysayers, Muslim World League Secretary General Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa said during his recent visit that Muslims residing in India take pride in their Constitution.

He spoke at an event at the India Islamic Culture Centre in New Delhi on July 11, where he shared the dais with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

His sentiment was echoed by the NSA too in his speech. Both emphasised that India believes in promoting tolerance, dialogue, and cooperation to deal with the challenges of present time. The speakers inferred that it was no coincidence that despite having around 200 million Muslims, the involvement of Indian citizens in global terrorism has been incredibly low.

Dr Al-Issa met top leaders during his five-day visit to India from July 10. The prominent global advocate for moderate Islam and former Minister for Justice of Saudi Arabia interacted with representatives of all communities, religions, and civilisations, and also met President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers S Jaishankar and Smriti Irani among others. He also took part in a programme of the Vivekananda Foundation.

Moderate Islam

Dr Al-Issa offered Friday prayers at Delhi’s Jama Masjid on July 14 and addressed the congregation. The same day he visited the Akshardham Temple in the national Capital.

Muslim World League is an international Islamic organisation, founded in 1962. Its headquarters is in Mecca. Among its objectives is to introduce people around the world, especially non-Muslims, to the moderate form of Islam.
