MUMBAI: Ahead of Diwali this year, the Brihan Mumbai Corporation (BMC) is looking at opening up two crucial bridges in the city, namely Gokhale Bridge in Andheri and Delisle Bridge in Lower Parel.
Officials said if there were no heavy rains, they should be able to meet the proposed deadline to open up the two crucial connectors.
Last week, the civic department reviewed the progress of work at Gokhale Bridge. The first girder for the bridge is expected to be launched in October and second by November this year. BMC officials said they were on track with the construction work.
As per Additional Municipal Commissioner, P Velrasu, who supervised the review, the progress is satisfactory. “All agencies are working in synchronisation.”
Gokhale Bridge, a primary eastwest link in the western suburbs, was dismantled due to its poor structural health in November last year. The BMC had earlier set a deadline of reopening the bridge partially by the end of May, while it planned reopening the entire bridge for public use by the end of October. The missing of this earlier deadline was attributed to a delay in the supply of raw material.
