No home, no vehicle immovable asset insurance policy

PM MODI DECLARES ASSETS

NEW DELHI: At 73, Prime Minister Narendra Modi doesn’t have any home or any other immovable asset. Nor is he the owner of a vehicle. In fact, he doesn’t even have a life insurance policy any more. And unlike most political leaders, he has made no investment in the equity market.

The Prime Minister doesn’t take any salary and donates the entire amount. He has also donated a piece of land he held in Gandhinagar.

According to his latest voluntary declaration of assets and liabilities, as reported by a national daily, PM Modi had Rs 30,240 in cash as on March 31.

He has only banked with SBI Gandhinagar, which he has retained since he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat. It shows a fixed deposit of Rs 2.47 crore and a balance of just Rs 574 in his savings account.

His other assets comprise National Savings Certificates, which were worth Rs 9.19 lakh as on March 31, and infrastructure bonds worth Rs 20,000.

For one of the longest holders of a public life in India, who has been the CM of Gujarat from 2001 till he became the PM in 2014, Modi’s assets and liabilities are a revelation. He appears to be one of the poorest PMs since the tradition of self-declaration of assets started during the tenure of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
