WHEN it comes to innovation in education, Kerala takes the honours. A school in Thiruvananthapuram has taken a revolutionary step in education with the introduction of AI teacher, Iris. Developed in collaboration with Makerlabs Edutech, Iris is the first humanoid robot teacher in the state and possibly the entire country.
This innovation comes from KTCT Higher Secondary School, an initiative by the Kaduvayil Thangal Charitable Trust. Iris is part of the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) project, a 2021 Niti Aayog initiative designed to boost extracurricular activities in schools.
The Iris makes education an entirely conducive experience for students. It can speak at least three languages, answer difficult questions, and boasts of several other features such as voice assistant, interactive learning, manipulation capabilities, and mobilities.
A video of Iris has also been shared by Makerlabs on its official Instagram handle that has already caught the attention of netizens. Sharing the video, Makerlabs said that “the AI teacher Robot Iris is poised to redefine the learning landscape as we know it”.
“By adapting to each student’s needs and preferences, Iris empowers educators to deliver engaging and effective lessons like never before,” wrote Makerlabs on the post.
“At the forefront of innovation, Makerlabs Edutech is proud to unveil our latest creation, Iris – the AI teacher robot poised to redefine the learning landscape as we know it. Iris embodies our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, inspiring confidence in more groundbreaking innovations to come,” the post read.
