Sandeepp SaxenaNEW DELHI: Widow Warrior: The Cause That Shaped My Life, a book that chronicles the journey of Lord Raj Loomba CBE and his relentless advocacy for widows around the world, is set to be released at the British Council Auditorium here on October 15.

The book-release function will be followed by an inspiring evening of conversation and reflections on the autobiography, published by Bloomsbury.

In his powerful comments on Widow Warrior, Lord Jeffrey Archer said, “If you want to know how to get to the top and also serve, this is the book for you.” Dame Joanna Lumley described the book as “a fascinating and important account of Raj Loomba’s steady journey towards justice for widows, written with grace and style.”

Born in Punjab in 1943, Raj Loomba moved to England at the age of 19, after attending university in America. He began his entrepreneurial journey with a stall in the Widnes Market in the North of England, eventually building an international fashion business.

The hardships his mother faced after being widowed when he was just ten years’ old deeply affected him. Motivated by this, Raj and his wife, Veena, founded The Loomba Foundation in 1997 to improve the status of widows. Since then, he has been a leading advocate for widows’ rights worldwide, successfully lobbying the United Nations to establish International Widows Day and implementing programmes to empower widows.

In recognition of his efforts, he was appointed to the UK House of Lords as Life Peer in 2011, where he continues to campaign against discrimination faced by widows.

Widow Warrior is an inspiring memoir of an exciting adventure, testament to what belief can achieve against the odds. It throws light on the widowed women worldwide who for so long have suffered in the shadows. The book brings hope where for centuries there has been despair.
