Invest in cyber security for safer future: Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cautioned states on the challenges posed by drugs, international crimes, terrorism and disinformation originating on foreign soil. He said that the world has been reposing its faith in India and that the country was looked up to as one that can bring stability to the global supply chain.

The PM was addressing the second national conference of Chief Secretaries in Delhi. He underlined the country’s notable milestones, ranging from India attaining the Presidency of G20, becoming the fifth biggest economy in the world, registration of new start-ups, and the foray of private players in the space sector. Also, discussing MSMEs, the prime minister said that states must act proactively towards the formalisation of MSMEs.

PM Modi spoke about how the country has been working towards both physical and social infrastructure. He also spoke about data security and the criticality of having a secure technology infrastructure for seamless delivery of essential services. He emphasised that states should try to adopt a strong cyber security strategy, adding that this investment was like insurance for the future.

Stating that on India’s initiative, the United Nations had declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets, the PM advocated for the same as environmentally-friendly food. He said that states should work on research related to millet products such that processing, packaging, marketing, branding etc and overall value addition of millet products should be promoted.

The Prime Minister also discussed establishing ‘Millet Cafes’ at prominent public places and state government offices across the country, adding that millets may be showcased in the G20 meetings being held in states.

After addressing the conclave PM Modi shared his views on Twitter also. He said, “It was a wonderful forum to exchange views on important policyrelated subjects and to strengthen the team spirit to take India to newer heights. Called upon the Chief Secretaries to focus on ending mindless compliance and those laws as well as rules which are outdated. In a time when India is initiating unparalleled reforms, there is no scope for over-regulation and mindless restrictions”.
