NEW DELHI: Brazilian news and political analysis website Brasil 247 and think-tank Instituto Sul Global expanded their presence in India by joining the development journalism initiative of Blitz India to build an international network of media outlets, journalists, and institutions committed to development as one of the major agendas of contemporary journalism.
As part of the partnership, Brasil 247 and Instituto Sul Global will establish offices in New Delhi and Mumbai, strengthening their operations in India and expanding coverage of issues related to the country, Brazil-India relations, and transformation underway across the Global South.
Likewise, Blitz India will establish offices in São Paulo and Brasília, consolidating its presence in Brazil and creating new opportunities for journalistic, institutional, and editorial exchange.
The partnership was finalised by Leonardo Attuch, President of Instituto Sul Global and founder of Brasil 247 with Deepak Dwivedi, Chairman & Editor-in-Chief of Blitz India and Munish Gupta, its Global Managing Editor.
Partnership provisions
The collaboration provides for the exchange of content, ideas, and experiences and opens the way for new joint initiatives between Brazil and India, as well as among different countries of the Global South.
The initiative is based on the premise that journalism should not merely record conflicts, crises, and political disputes, but also monitor, analyse, and encourage debate on the major challenges of development. These include reducing inequality, infrastructure, innovation, education, sustainability, social inclusion, technological sovereignty, and improving living conditions.
For Dwivedi, the inclusion of Brasil 247 and Instituto Sul Global expands the initiative’s international dimension and strengthens the construction of bridges between two of the leading nations of the Global South.
“The development journalism initiative was born from the conviction that journalism can help bring societies closer, share successful experiences, and place development at the center of public debate. The participation of Brasil 247 and Instituto Sul Global strengthens this mission,” Dwivedi said.
Gupta highlighted the potential for creating an international communications network capable of expanding the circulation of information and perspectives among countries that have historically received less space on the global media agenda.
“The world needs to better understand the transformations taking place in the Global South. We want to connect journalists, media outlets, and institutions from different countries so that we can tell our own stories, understand our experiences, and learn from one another,” he said.
More balanced world
Brasil 247’s Attuch said the partnership is aligned with the goal of bringing together societies and institutions committed to international cooperation and to building a more balanced world.
“Development is the cause that unites all nations and should be the central objective of all peoples. Regardless of cultural, political, or geographical differences, all societies aspire to offer more opportunities, dignity, and quality of life to their populations. Journalism can and must contribute to this goal,” he said.
According to him, closer ties with Blitz India also represent another step toward building lasting bridges between Brazil and India.
Attuch further said, “India is undergoing an extraordinary transformation, and Brazil needs to understand it better. Likewise, there is enormous room for Indians to gain a better understanding of Brazil and Latin America. When journalists and institutions from our countries begin to engage in direct dialogue, we reduce distances and strengthen South-South cooperation.”
Physical presence
The physical presence of the institutions in both countries will make it possible to expand the production of reports, analyses, and special content, as well as facilitate events, meetings, and joint projects. The offices in Delhi, Mumbai, São Paulo, and Brasília will serve as hubs for journalists, researchers, businesspeople, public officials, and civil society representatives interested in deepening dialogue between Brazil and India.
Brasil 247 and Instituto Sul Global’s decision to join the development journalism initiative comes at a time when both the platforms are expanding their relations with Indian institutions. The goal is to transform these connections into a permanent network for the circulation of knowledge, content, and ideas.
More than a partnership between media organisations, the initiative is based on a shared idea: in a world marked by profound economic, technological, and geopolitical transformations, development can serve as a language capable of bringing peoples, countries, and civilisations closer together.
