UN Global Compact Network India (UN GCNI) – A local arm of United Nations Global Compact, New York,organized the 6th edition of its Gender Equality Summit at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi.
Coinciding with International Women’s Day, UNGCNI’s 6th Gender Equality Summitlinked the international theme with the Indian context and highlighted the current generation as a key driver and India Inc. as a key catalyst for gender equality. The summit was a platform to discussissues prevalent in our timesand the efforts that will be required to ensure gender equality in the years to come.
The summit witnessed over 300 leaders across the sectors sharing insights on women empowerment.
Dr. Sangita Reddy, India Chair – G20 Empower, Past President, FICCI and Jt. Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals, recognized the crucial role that technology and innovation can play in promoting gender equality. She said, Government is committed to promoting a gender-equal future where women and girls have equal access to opportunities and resources, and where their contributions to society are valued and celebrated.
Mr. Arun Kumar Singh, President UN-GCNI and Chairman & CEO, ONGC, added “Digitalization has enabled women to access quality education without compromising their mobility, While, automation and technology have encouraged women to explore avenues which were earlier perceived as male dominated, but now, with improved technology we have unmanned production platforms which have made the work gender neutral and working in favour of gender equality.
Vaishali Nigam Sinha, Chair UN GCNI GES 2023 and Chairperson, Sustainability,ReNew,stated “For the world to become sustainable and prosperous it is important to ensure that women are constantly engaging with the world by becoming part of the education system, government and the professional world. It is crucial that women are exposed to technology and provided with a conducive environment to achieve this.
