NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has announced the dates for the assembly elections to be held in Karnataka. Voting for the elections will be held on May 10 and the results will be declared on May 13. Elections will be held in one phase only.

The term of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly ends on May 25. The date of nomination of candidates in Karnataka will start from 13th April and the last date is 20th April. The nomination papers will be scrutinised till April 21 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 24.

According to Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, 9.17 lakh new voters have been added to the voter list of Karnataka. There are more than 58 thousand polling booths in the state.

The ruling BJP currently has 119 seats in Karnataka. The Congress has 75, while its ally JD(S) has a total of 28 seats. This time Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will also contest elections in Karnataka. The assembly has a total of 224 seats and 28 seats in the Lok Sabha.
