In the 99th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on 26th March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi deliberated upon many issues including organ donation, solar energy and women’s empowerment. The Prime Minster expressed his happiness at the enthusiasm among the people of the country regarding the 100th episode of Mann Ki Baat on 30th April and solicited their suggestions and thoughts in this regard.

He then dwelt on organ donation, mentioning that when a person donates his body after death, it creates a possibility for 8 to 9 people to get a new life. He informed that the work is under way on a uniform policy in the whole country to encourage organ donation. It has been decided to remove the domicile condition of the states. This means that a patient can go to any state in the country and register to receive the organ. The government has also decided to remove the age limit below 65 years for organ donation. The Prime Minister urged people to come forward as organ donors in maximum numbers to save lives.

He spoke about Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and his wife Supreet Kaur whose baby girl of around six months had passed away. The parents of the girl child decided to donate her organs, thus she became the youngest donor in India. He mentioned about Jharkhand’s resident Snehlata Chaudhary, 63, who donated her heart, kidney and liver.

Talking about women doing well in diverse spheres, he also talked about Surekha Yadav who has become Asia’s first female loco pilot; Captain Shiva Chauhan, the first woman posted in Siachen, Jyotirmayi Mohanty, scientist of Bhabha Atomic Research Center, who has received IUPAC’s special award in the field of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and India’s Under-19 women’s cricket team who created history by winning the T-20 World Cup, and Captain Shalija Dhami who has become the first woman Air Force officer to receive an appointment in a combat unit.

He also congratulated Guneet Monga and Kartiki Gonsalves, producer and director of documentary ‘Elephant Whisperers’ for bringing laurels to the country by winning an Oscar.
PM Modi also complimented the nation for moving forward in the field of solar energy.
