TEZPUR: President Droupadi Murmu took off in a Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter jet from Tezpur Airforce Station in Assam.
It is noteworthy that earlier former Presidents Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Pratibha Patil and Ramnath Kovind have flown in the Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft. Pratibha Patil made two world records by flying in Sukhoi. Nirmala Sitharaman flew in Sukhoi 30MKI on 17 January 2018, when she was the Defense Minister.
President Draupadi Murmu is on a three-day visit to Assam from April 6 to 8. Earlier on April 7, he had inaugurated the Gaja Utsav-2023 at Kaziranga National Park and later flagged off Mount Kanchenjunga Expedition-2023 in Guwahati. Along with this, President Murmu also participated in the function organised on the occasion of completion of 75 years of Guwahati High Court.
Sukhoi has been built in collaboration with Russia’s military aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi and India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Sukhoi Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft is the fourth generation fighter aircraft. Sukhoi can fly faster than 2100 km per hour. It can fire 150 rounds in about 1 minute. It can refuel in the air itself and can also fly with many missiles and laser bombs.
