The 1980s marked a transformative era for India, yet the real estate sector faced numerous challenges. My brother and I en tered this landscape by acquiring our first plot in Powai, Mumbai. This wasn’t just a piece of land; it was a blank canvas, ready for a phoenix to rise.
Growing up, we were never taught to dream small. Our father, Dr LH Hirananda ni, a renowned ENT surgeon, instilled in us the values of hard work and integrity. These principles became the cornerstone of our entrepreneurial journey. The initial phase was fraught with obstacles – outdated regu lations, bureaucratic red tape, and capital shortages.
Our secret weapon
For those unfamiliar, jugaad is an Indian term for an innovative fix or simple work around. It’s about finding solutions with limit ed resources. In our early days, jugaad was our saving grace. From sourcing material to managing labour, we applied ingenuity where conventional methods failed.
Our project in Powai wasn’t just about con structing buildings; it was about transforming a blueprint into a tangible reality. As I reflect on our journey, the entrepre neurial zest that fueled our rise from ashes to a phoenix legacy was deeply rooted in constant learning and adaptability.
