Blitz Bureau

NEW DELHI:India and the League of Arab States have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the India-Arab partnership, with discussions focusing on advancing cooperation in new and emerging areas.

Secretary (Consular, Passport and Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs) at the Ministry of External Affairs, Sripriya Ranganathan, met Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Khalid Manzalawi, in Cairo.

The Indian Embassy in Egypt said in a post on X that the discussions focused on advancing the Executive Programme 2026-28, adopted at the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, including through concrete initiatives in new and emerging areas of cooperation. “Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the India-Arab partnership,” the Embassy said.

The Indian Embassy in Egypt said in a post on X that the discussions focused on advancing the Executive Programme 2026- 28, adopted at the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, including through concrete initiatives in new and emerging areas of cooperation.

Earlier, Ranganathan addressed the inaugural session of the India-Egypt BRICS Partnership Conference in Cairo, organised by the Indian Embassy in Egypt in collaboration with the Indian Council of World Affairs. She highlighted the key priorities of India’s BRICS 2026 Chairship and underlined the potential for closer cooperation between India and Egypt within the grouping.

The Indian Embassy said the India-Egypt Strategic Partnership provides a strong foundation for closer cooperation within BRICS and for advancing the priorities of the Global South. Ranganathan was on an official visit to Egypt, Palestine and Lebanon from August 16 to 21.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, she will hold meetings with her counterparts and other key regional stakeholders during the visit.

The visit is aimed at reinforcing India’s friendly ties with the three countries and providing an opportunity for discussions on regional developments and other issues of mutual interest.

The MEA said the visit is Ranganathan’s maiden visit to the region in her current capacity and is expected to further deepen India’s engagement with the partner countries.
