A new Group Protection Insurance scheme for bluecollar workers in the UAE has been introduced. The scheme, launched by Dubai National Insurance (DNI) in collaboration with its marketing partner, Nexus Insurance Brokers LLC, at the Consulate General of India in Dubai, builds upon the Life Protection Plan (LPP) introduced in March 2024, reports DD news. The insurance product can be purchased by businesses in the UAE on behalf of their employees.

Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai, said it was vital to provide support to families when their sole earning relative died overseas This new insurance scheme aims to enhance financial security for Indian blue-collar workers and other employees in the UAE. Effective from April 1, 2025, the plan offers extensive coverage, including benefits for natural and accidental death, permanent disability, and repatriation expenses.

The sum assured under this scheme is AED 35,000 per person, with an affordable annual premium of AED 32. The initiative reflects the continued commitment of the Consulate General of India to safeguarding the well-being of Indian expatriates in the UAE. By encouraging employers to adopt this measure as part of their labour welfare initiatives, the consulate aims to prevent financial distress for the families of Indian workers in case of their untimely passing.

Anthony Cerchiai, head of General Insurance at the Nexus Group, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “We designed this product with DNI to ensure that blue-collar workers are financially protected, and their families in India are not left vulnerable. The selection process took months, as we needed an insurer capable of covering a vast number of workers without pre-existing condition exclusions. These hardworking individuals have built this country, and it is our duty to give back to them.”

In another move aimed at empowering Indian expatriates, the consulate in collaboration with the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) and Edapt Learning Technologies, has launched a multilingual online Digital Literacy Programme for Indian workers in Dubai.

The initiative, supported by KMCC as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, aims to equip at least 5,000 workers in its first year with essential digital skills, cyber fraud awareness, and knowledge of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). Successful candidates will receive certificates jointly issued by the Consulate General of India in Dubai and Edapt Learning Technologies, enhancing their employability and digital proficiency.

Sivan, emphasised the relevance of the programme, stating, “The first module will cover basic cyber frauds and cyber security over four weeks. The next four weeks will introduce workers to AI and how they can leverage it. This is just the beginning, and as we assess feedback, we aim to refine and expand the program further. It aligns with our vision to serve the vast Indian community here.”
