NEW DELHI: As India’s Ambassador to Egypt, Ajit Gupte, a seasoned diplomat who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1991, has been instrumental in strengthening India-Egypt relations through a series of impactful initiatives and events.
Under his leadership, the Indian Embassy in Egypt achieved significant milestones. One such moment was when the Embassy illuminated the iconic Cairo Tower, the tallest tower in North Africa, with the Indian National Flag on the evening of 15th August 2021. This historic gesture marked the first time ever that Cairo Tower had been adorned with the Indian tricolour.
Ajit Gupte’s diplomatic journey is marked by a wealth of experience and expertise. He has studied Chinese (Mandarin) and has handled Chinarelated assignments, including postings in Hong Kong and Beijing.
Music and dance
The Embassy organised a diverse range of activities as part of various celebrations. These included a vibrant ‘Bollywood Music and Dance Evening,’ a spirited Cycle Rally, a tree-plantation drive to promote environmental consciousness, and joyful Makar-Sankranti celebrations.
Highlighting the commitment to fostering diplomatic ties, the Mission hosted a Republic Day reception on 19th January this year. This event was graced by the presence of Egypt’s Minister of Culture, Dr. Nevine Youssef ElKilani; Minister of Public Enterprises, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat; and Minister of Civil Aviation, Mohamed Abbas Helmy. Over 300 dignitaries from the diplomatic community, think-tanks, and the entertainment industry attended this event.
