NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) and Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology (Mahapreit) have come together in a significant project in the renewable energy sector in Maharashtra, according to reports.
NGEL is a subsidiary of NTPC, and Mahapreit a wholly subsidiary company of Mahatma Phule Backward Class Development Corporation (MPBCDC), a Government of Maharashtra State PSU. The two entities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop grid-connected renewable energy parks and projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid solutions. It will have a total capacity of up to 10 gigawatts (GW).
Since 1975, NTPC is involved in accelerating power development in India. It is the country’s largest energy conglomerate, having established itself as the dominant power major with presence in the entire value chain of the power generation business. From fossil fuels, NTPC has forayed into generating electricity via hydro, nuclear and renewable energy sources, which will help in lowering its carbon footprint by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It is a Maharatna company.
Mahapreit is into generating, trading, operating, leasing and renting renewable power projects, including solar parks along with sub-stations and transmission lines on ownership and / or build, own, and transfer basis. It also aims to carry on business in relation to decarbonisation and energy efficiency, battery storage solutions, alternative fuel cell technology and climate change.
