DRIIV hosted an impactful roundtable discussion , marking a significant step in strengthening the G2G (Government-to-Government) Indo-Danish Green Strategic Partnership. The event, organized under the banner of the Indo-Danish Plastic Innovation Network, was inaugurated by Dr (Mrs.) Parvinder Maini, Hon’ble Scientific Secretary of the Office of the PSA to the GoI. and Counsellor Casper Mayland of the Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi.
The roundtable brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including govt. bodies and policymakers, industrial leaders, researchers, and environmental experts. With a common goal of addressing the global challenge of plastic waste, the discussions were centered around scaling sustainable innovations, promoting circular economy solutions, and fostering cross-border collaboration to mitigate the environmental impacts of plastic.
DRIIV MD & CEO Ms. Shipra Misra in her welcome address, stated, “The Indo-Danish partnership is a beacon of international cooperation on sustainability. Today’s roundtable serves as a testament to our shared commitment to tackling plastic waste with innovative solutions that not only benefit our two nations but set an example for the global community.”
The Indo-Danish Plastic Innovation Network is an initiative under the Green Strategic Partnership, which aims to strengthen cooperation on climate change, green technology, and sustainable development between the two nations. Marking a milestone in Indo-Danish Collaboration, the roundtable provided a platform for India and Denmark to exchange best practices, share innovative ideas, and explore co-creation opportunities in waste management, recycling technologies, and sustainable material innovations.
The discussions were driven by a holistic approach that envisions the entire lifecycle of plastic waste ‘from generation to disposal’ being managed sustainably. Key themes that discussed included: Plastic Waste Management and Recycling Technologies: Participants explored innovative technologies such as advanced recycling techniques, plastic-to-fuel conversion, and the development of biodegradable alternatives. Danish counterparts showcased their cutting-edge plastic recycling solutions.
Industry-Academia Collaboration, cross-border Initiatives were the other themes covered. Several cross-border collaborations aimed at tackling plastic pollution. Joint pilot projects, technology transfers, and co-investment opportunities were discussed, with a focus on scaling proven solutions in both countries and exploring new avenues for research and innovation.
A key takeaway from the roundtable was the recognition that global environmental challenges such as plastic pollution cannot be solved by any one nation alone. The Indo-Danish Plastic Innovation Network serves as a platform for fostering long-term partnerships between the two countries, uniting public, private, and academic sectors to develop and implement practical, scalable solutions to plastic waste management.
The roundtable participants (MCD, MCG, TDB, UNEP, BASF, ICC, ASSOCHAM, GAIL, IOCL, M3M,UFLEX , CSIR Institutes, IIT Delhi, TER etc.) agreed that addressing plastic waste requires a comprehensive approach that integrates economic growth with environmental stewardship. DRIIV, by forging multistakeholder collaboration, sustainable innovation and capacity building, is well-poised to serve as the crucial platform in driving the change!
