Mahanagar Gas Limited to set up Compressed Biogas (CBG) Plant in Mumbai with support from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation

Sanjay jogMahanagar Gas Limited, one of the largest city gas distribution companies in India, today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for setting up a Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Mumbai.

– Proposed capacity to process upto 1000 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) of deep segregated waste to be supplied by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation

The MoU was signed between Mahanagar Gas Limited and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in the august presence of Shri Deepak Kesarkar, Hon’ble Minister for School Education and Guardian Minister of Mumbai City, Shri Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Women & Child Welfare and Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District. Shri Mahesh V Iyer, Chairman, Mahanagar Gas Limited and Shri Iqbal Singh Chahal, Municipal Commissioner & Administrator of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Shri. Ashu Shinghal, Managing Director, MGL and Shri Shrawan Hardikar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (City), BMC.

The MoU was signed by Ms. Chanda R Jadhav, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Mr. Manas Das, Vice President (Business Development & Commercial), Mahanagar Gas Limited.

The CBG plant having capacity to process upto 1000 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) of deep segregated food and vegetable waste would be set up on parcel of land to be provided by BMC. The waste, also known as CBG feedstock, will be collected from hotels, restaurants, banquet halls, large vegetable markets/mandi in the city. The daily supply of required feedstock for the CBG plant will be managed by BMC through dedicated vehicles, and will include collection, segregation, and delivery.

The Biogas plant, once completed, will provide a three-in-one solution, functioning as a Biomass waste treatment plant, an organic fertilizer production plant and green fuel production. The Compressed Biogas produced by the plant will be consumed within BMC limits.
