WASHINGTON: Millets held the center stage during the dinner hosted by President Joe Biden in honour of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the South Lawns of the White House on June 22. There was a mixed course of millets— marinated millet, corn kernel salad and crisped millet cakes during the main course for over 400 guests
Nina Curtis, who specializes in plant based cuisine was the chief chef and curator. She was there at the behest of the First Lady Jill Biden who selected the millet based menu.
Also in recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Gujrati roots, Patel Red Blend 2019, was one of the wines served during the dinner. This brand is owned by Raj Patel who hailed from Gujarat and has a vineyard in Napa Valley (California).
“There was a distinct Indian touch to the grand affair,” was how a guest summed up the grandiose dinner.
