NEW DELHI: President Vladimir Putin hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy and the progress made in India under his leadership. The Russian leader was addressing the annual address to the Valdai Discussion Club, a Moscow-based think tank on October 5.
“A lot has been done under the leadership of PM Modi. He is a patriot of his country. His idea of Make in India matters both economically and ethically.” Putin said.
He lauded India’s transformation from a British colony to a modern state. He expressed respect and admiration for the country’s 1.5 billion people and visible development outcomes. He emphasised the significance of India’s democracy, labelling it the world’s largest.
Putin also underlined Prime Minister Modi’s ability to conduct independent foreign policy in the interest of India, despite external pressures. “He (PM Modi) is one of those people who is capable of carrying out an independent foreign policy which serves the interests of his people.
“Despite all attempts to impose some kind of restrictions on India, he is like an ice-breaker and continues moving in the direction which the Indian state needs.” Putin said.
