NEW DELHI: Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his family met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on February 18. The two dignitaries had a wonderful conversation on many subjects.

PM Modi said that Sunak is a great friend of India and is passionate about even stronger India-UK ties. In a post on X, he said, “It was a delight to meet former UK PM, Mr. Rishi Sunak and his family! We had a wonderful conversation on many subjects. Sunak is a great friend of India and is passionate about even stronger India-UK ties”.

Earlier, Sunak met Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman and the two discussed potential new avenues to strengthen market-based financial ties and drive economic growth.

Sitharaman stressed the importance of leveraging the Commonwealth to bring issues of mutual interest to the G7 agenda for the benefit of the Global South. Her meeting came close on the heels of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar meeting the former British PM on February 17.

“Nice to meet former UK PM @RishiSunak in Delhi today. Appreciate his constant support for strengthening India-UK relations,” he posted on X. The External Affairs Minister also shared some photographs of their meeting. Sunak also visited the Taj Mahal along with his family members on February 15. The former UK Prime Minister toured the Taj Mahal and signed the visitor book along with his wife. “A truly breathtaking visit. Few places in the world can unite like the Taj Mahal. Our children will never forget seeing this… We are so grateful to the warm hospitality. An unforgettable experience for our whole family. Thank you,” he said.

His wife, Akshata Murty also cherished the experience and said, “A memory for the ages”.
