INDIAN-American astronaut Sunita Williams is set to go to space for the third time as she launches onboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.
The mission, known as the Crew Flight Test (CFT), will carry Nasa astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams aboard the Starliner capsule, which will be launched atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida The astronauts will spend about a week at the orbiting laboratory.
The crew capsule will then return to earth, making a parachute and airbag-assisted landing in the southwestern United States, according to a NASA article. This mission is crucial since after its successful completion, NASA will begin the final process of certifying the Starliner missions to the space station.
Sunita has already undertaken two expeditions to space. In the first instance, she accompanied the crew of STS-116 on December 9, 2006, docking with the ISS on December 11, 2006. That time she served as the flight engineer. The voyage concluded with the crew returning to earth on June 22, 2007.
The Indian-American astronaut has already spent a cumulative total of 322 days in space, according to NASA.
