MORGANTOWN: As the world celebrates International Yoga Day on June 21, Dr VK Raju, a globally respected ophthalmologist, humanitarian, and Founder-President of Eye Foundation of America (EFA), extended his greetings on behalf of the global Indian diaspora.

“Yoga is one of India’s greatest gifts to humanity,” said Dr Raju. “It is a timeless science of balance, healing, and inner clarity. Its philosophy perfectly aligns with our mission at EFA – to eliminate avoidable childhood blindness and promote holistic, preventive healthcare for all.”

Dr Raju emphasised that while Hatha Yoga represents the physical dimension of the practice, the essence of Yoga lies in union – of body, mind, and spirit. “True yoga nurtures compassion, resilience, and harmony – core values that are critical to both public health and human dignity.”

Having served over four million children and adults across 30 countries, Dr Raju advocates for a healthcare approach that integrates modern medicine with India’s ancient traditions, such as yoga and Ayurveda. “By combining ancient wisdom with scientific innovation, we can build healthcare systems that are more empathetic, inclusive, and sustainable,” he said.

He called upon the Indian diaspora to play a transformative role. “We are not just cultural ambassadors – we are the living bridges between civilisations. By introducing yoga in schools, clinics, and community programmes worldwide, we can sow the seeds of wellness and peace that transcend borders.”

Dr Raju concluded with a powerful message to world leaders, healthcare professionals, and the global community: “On this International Yoga Day, let us open our hearts and align our energies. Let us commit to a world where vision, vitality, and values flourish together. Because every child deserves not only the gift of sight – but the ability to see a peaceful, hopeful world.”
