NEW DELHI: Singapore’s ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) won 87 of the 97 seats in Parliament in May 3 general election, according to local media reports. The country’s main opposition Workers’ Party (WP) secured 10 seats.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, whose party won the election, thanked supporters. “Singaporeans have given the @PAPSingapore a clear and strong mandate to govern. I am humbled by and grateful for the faith you have placed in me and my team,” he posted on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his congratulations to Lawrence Wong, following the People’s Action Party’s (PAP) decisive victory.
In a post on X, PM Modi highlighted the strong and multifaceted partnership between India and Singapore. “Heartiest congratulations, Lawrence Wong, on your resounding victory in the general elections. India and Singapore share a strong and multifaceted partnership, underpinned by close people-to-people ties. I look forward to continue working closely with you to further advance our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” he wrote.
