NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian on August 31 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek.
It is the first in-person meeting since the war with Iran began in February.
Pezeshkian emphasised to Modi the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to establish peace and security in the region.
“The Prime Minister reiterated India’s consistent position that all issues must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy,” noted the MEA.
Modi called for safeguarding the freedom of navigation and commerce in the region, the MEA stated.
