FORMER Union minister Smriti Irani embarked on a four-nation book promotion tour from November 20-26, to launch MODIALOGUE–Conversations for a Viksit Bharat, authored by Dr Ashwin Fernandes. The tour, spanning Kuwait, UAE, Oman, and the UK, showcased India’s vision of progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and fostered deeper cultural, social, and economic bonds with the Indian diaspora and global audiences.
Diaspora engagement
During the first leg of the tour in Kuwait, on November 20-21, MODIALOGUE was officially launched at an event where Ms Irani was the chief guest. The vibrant Indian diaspora, numbering over one million, actively participated in the event, showcasing their enthusiasm and connection to India. At a meeting with the Bharatiya Pravasi Parishad (BPP), she engaged with the Indian diaspora and prominent community leaders, highlighting India’s progress and the shared vision of a Viksit Bharat. The former minister also delivered a talk on the topic, ‘Under PM Modi’s Leadership: India’s Rise as a Strategic Economic Partner for Kuwait’, wherein she emphasised India’s growing economic ties with the Gulf region.
In the UAE, Ms Irani visited India Jewellery Exposition Centre (IJEX), an initiative by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), highlighting Indian jewellery’s global prominence. She interacted with women leaders in the jewellery sector, recognising their roles as entrepreneurs and exporters who are elevating Indian craftsmanship globally. She later participated in discussions with His Highness Rashid bin Humaid, Chairman of the Ajman Government Executive Council, on ‘India-UAE Synergies: Shaping New Market Partnerships’.
IPF Women Council
A landmark moment at India Club, Dubai, saw the launch of the IPF Women Council. Ms Irani emphasised the importance of empowering Indian women in the UAE and celebrated their achievements in diverse fields. She also visited the Swaminarayan Temple – UAE’s first Hindu temple that underscores the spiritual and cultural bonds between the two nations. Ms Irani described the temple as a “beacon of unity, peace, and devotion”.
In the UAE, MODIALOGUE was launched at Amity University Auditorium in Dubai. The event was attended by thought leaders and students of the university. Later, the book was launched at an event hosted by the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC).
London book launch
Ms Irani was in Oman on November 24- 25, where she launched MODIALOGUE. A ‘meet & greet’ with the Bharatiya Pravasi Manch (BPM) attracted Indian diaspora eager to discuss India’s growth and global influence. She engaged with the BPM Women Cell during a temple visit, celebrating cultural heritage and women’s empowerment.
The former minister concluded the tour with the launch of MODIALOGUE at the Nehru Centre – The Indian High Commission, in London on November 26. The event highlighted India’s journey under PM Modi’s leadership and engaged audiences in thoughtful discussions. Ms Irani also held discussions with Vikram K Doraiswami, India’s High Commissioner to the UK, and discussed collaborative opportunities with him.
Collective aspirations of a Viksit Bharat
MODIALOGUE’s four-nation tour has been an extraordinary journey, celebrating India’s transformation under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. From Kuwait to Dubai, and then Oman, and finally London, the discussions highlighted India’s role as a global leader, uniting cultures, fostering dialogue, and inspiring progress.
I am deeply humbled by the overwhelming support and engagement at every stop. This tour was not just about a book but about the collective aspirations of a Viksit Bharat and the reflections of the commitment of the Indian diaspora abroad. I am grateful to all who joined us, reaffirming that India’s story belongs to the world. Together, we shape a future of unity and hope.
A CELEBRATION OF India’s transformation
THIS tour has been nothing short of exhilarating. It was inspiring to witness the Indian diaspora in celebration – proud of how India has transformed from a land of potential to a land of achievements.
Every conversation reflected a profound sense of possibility: of global good taking shape, of Indians eager to collaborate for a Viksit Bharat, and of a world community, captivated and ready to partner with India for a brighter, shared future.
The journey has reinforced my belief in India’s rise as a global leader – a story of progress, purpose, and partnership that continues to enthrall and inspire.
