DEFENCE scientists have developed a dual-flow automatic loader for its new-generation tank by enhancing the tank’s firepower and reducing crew risk. As per sources, the dual-flow automatic loader features a conveyor in the hull capable of holding 24 rounds.

An additional 16 rounds are stored in a second conveyor in the turret. This dual-storage system ensures a continuous supply of ammunition to the main gun, allowing for sustained firing without manual reloading.

One of the most significant advantages of the dual-flow automatic loader is the increase in the tank’s rate of fire. By automating the ammunition loading process, the loader can quickly and efficiently load rounds, reducing the downtime between shots.

Manual loading of ammunition in tanks is a labour-intensive and timeconsuming process. The automatic loader reduces the physical demands on the crew, allowing them to focus on other critical tasks, such as target acquisition and situational awareness. This not only improves overall efficiency but also reduces the risk of human error during combat.

The placement of the crew in the forward part of the hull, away from the ammunition storage, significantly enhances crew safety. In traditional tanks, the crew is often near the stored ammunition, increasing the risk of injury or death in the event of a hit. The dual-flow loader’s design ensures that ammunition is stored in two separate compartments, one in the hull and one in the turret. This duallocation approach allows for better weight distribution across the tank, improving its balance and mobility.

With 40 rounds readily available in the conveyors, the next-gen tank can sustain prolonged engagements without requiring frequent resupply. This improved endurance on the battlefield allows the tank to remain operational for extended periods, which is crucial in both offensive and defensive operations.
